/ Around 1600, Germany, Nuremberg / Ebony, ivory, brass. Dimensions while closed 2 × 8.2 × 13.3 cm; height when open 13.5 cm. / 2 x 8,2 x 13,3 cm
A rare historical astronomical instrument used in navigation and to tell time. The base (inside) features a compass encircled in a metal housing; the inside cover has a sundial. The outside center has a dial with a sun motif and the cardinal directions. Engravings of male busts are in each corner. The entire surface is richly decorated with ivory and gilded acanthine motifs engraved in ebony. More recent repairs made.

We cordially invite all art lovers to our special Evening Auction held regularly each year at our gallery, Arthouse Hejtmánek in Prague–Bubeneč. The auction will be held in the winter garden adjacent to the gallery on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 6pm.
