A LATE GOTHIC MADONNA / Around 1500, probably western Bohemia
The Madonna, standing on a half moon bearing the head of a demon, is holding the Christ Child in her right arm. The unshrouded Virgin Mary has a crown on her head and is wearing a white dress with a red bodice and gold mantle with decorated edges. The Christ Child has an apple in his hand - a symbol of sovereign power. The facial features, method used to carve the hair and deeply-carved flowing drapery all indicate that the work was created in the western Bohemia area around 1500.
The statue is in very good condition with preserved original polychrome painting. (Height 113 cm)
SPÄTGOTISCHE MADONNA / Um 1500, wahrscheinlich Westböhmen
Auf einem Halbmond mit Dämonenkopf stehende Madonna mit Jesus auf der rechten Hand. Die Jungfrau Maria trägt die typische Krone auf dem Kopf, hat keinen Schleier und ist in ein weißes Gewand mit rotem Mieder gekleidet, darüber trägt sie einen goldenen Mantel mit verziertem Saum. Anhand der Typik des Gesichts, der Haartracht und dem tief geschnitzten Schwung der Draperie kann davon ausgegangen werden, dass das Werk in der Umgebung von Westböhmen, etwa um das Jahr 1500, entstand.
Die Plastik ist in sehr gutem Zustand, die ursprüngliche Polychromie ist erhalten. Polychromiertes und vergoldetes Lindenholz (H. 113 cm)
