FRANTIŠEK TKADLÍK (1786-1840): BIBLICAL SCENE FROM THE NEW TESTAMENT
Around 1830, Italy, Rome

The iconography of this Biblical scene, a topic that is very typical for the artist, comes from Mark 10:13-16, in which Jesus tells his disciples, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." The scene, set in a landscape with architecture in clear reference to Italian painting, focuses on a figural group.

During his stay in Rome (1824-1832), Tkadlík focused on the study of large figural compositions. The influence of nazarenism is also evident in the color and light modulation he used. According to Dr. Blažíčková-Horová, this small painting is an example of the artist's late Roman period, which attests to his mastery of painting. Expert assessment: PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová.
Oil on wood, unsigned. (26 x 36,5 cm)

Starting price: 180 000 CZK / 6 667 EUR
