Full leather binding decorated with blind embossing, printed on handmade paper. Label with gilded debossed title on the binding. The book contains a collection of biographies of important Jesuits who had been tortured to death on missions in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Illustrations by the important Baroque painter Karel Škréta and engraver Melchior Küssel. Published by J. N. Hampel Factor. The book contains approximately 170 engravings. Before the title page is a copper engraving frontispiece by Karel Škréta. Complete, only featuring a stain on the first pages near the binding due to moisture.
