Hellenistic Figure of Zeus and Ganymede, ex-Christie's
Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. Pottery depicting Zeus in the form of an eagle atop the back of the youthful Ganymede, the eagle grasping the boy's back, with outstretched wings. The youth depicted nude but for a chlamys draped over the shoulders, with one arm raised and the other at his side, a foliate wreath in his hair. Includes custom stand. Size: 8-7/8"H.
