Roman Bronze Figural Oil Lamp
Rome, ca. 100 BCE to 100 CE. Among the finest oil lamps we have had the pleasure of handling! Cast bronze lamp in the form of a standing African male. He stands nude save cape over his shoulder, very anatomically correct, holding a torch which acts as the spout to the lamp, small hole in his left shoulder acts as the fill hole. The sculpture has developed a stunning multi-hued patina and is simply gorgeous! Includes custom stand. Size: piece itself measures 6"H.
Provenance: Ex-private NYC, NY collection; ex-private William Froelich Collection, NY, acquired 1970's.
