Egyptian Limestone Sculptor's Model - Fragment
Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. Small rectangular panel depicting a bust of an Asian or Semite in raised relief. The face in profile to right is characterised by a long beard and rich hair adorned by a fillet. Both the man's coiffure and his beard differentiate him from the well-groomed Egyptians who wore wigs and cut their beards short. Reverse with the representation of the neck, shoulders and part of the head of a man. Slightly worn. Size: 3-3/4"H (8.8 cm).
