Greek Geometric Bronze Pyxis
Greece, most likely from Macedonia, Geometric Period, 8th century BCE. Gorgeous bronze pyxis with oblong body and decorative openwork flange at base, lid in the form of two bird heads, central vertical post acts as handle. It is believed that these containers were filled with perfume and were worn in the manner of pendants. Size: 4" (10 cm) H to top of handle.
Provenance: Ex-private New York, NY collection acquired in 1985; ex-private Richard Wagner collection, Cape Cod, MA, acquired 1970's.
