Description
Original vintage advertising poster for Johnnie Walker Scotch Whiskey: Good Old Johnnie Walker. We are not sure whether this poster is incomplete or the missing part on the bottom left was an intended design: it is issued in two-sheets of different sizes (Sheet 1: 67x103; sheet 2: 83x101). This large two-sheet poster features the classic Johnnie Walker's icon, the Striding Man, a portrait of a dapper Edwardian gentleman in mid-strut created in 1908 by renowned English cartoonist Tom Browne. Browne modelled the character's appearance after the brands founder, grocer John Walker, but also took some artistic license by transforming the mild-mannered shopkeeper into a monocle-toting member of high society. The artwork here is set on the right against a white background with the text printed in red and blue letters on the left. Johnnie Walker is a brand of Scotch whisky now owned by Diageo that originated in the Scottish town of Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire. The brand was first established by grocer John Walker. It is the most widely distributed brand of blended Scotch whisky in the world, sold in almost every country, with annual sales of the equivalent of over 223.7 million 700 ml bottles in 2016 (156.6 million litres). Good condition, folded as issued and in margins, yellowing and minor tears in margins. Poster issued in two-sheets.
