The montage also features drawings of a factory, a steamship, and Stephenson’s Rocket (1825) - an early steam locomotive. Above are five figures in red robes holding various items to represent Hercules, agriculture, Justice, Commerce and Vulcan. In the corners of the poster, images depict George Stephenson (1781-1848, British civil and mechanical engineer dubbed as ‘Father of Railways’), James Watt (1736-1819, Scottish inventor and developer of the Watt steam engine), two doves captioned knowledge and peace, and a beehive surrounded by a wreath, representing industry and reward.
