Advertising Poster Passing Show Gilbert Wilkinson
Original vintage advertising poster for the Passing Show magazine and its Extra Summer Number costing 6d featuring a colourful and fun image by Gilbert Wilkinson (1891-1965) of three young ladies in swimming suits enjoying the sunshine, two diving into the water from the back of the small rowing boat and the other sitting inside with a smiling man rowing and smoking, wearing a white suit and top hat, the text above and on the side in front of the blue sea background. Gilbert Wilkinson was a magazine artist for over 25 years and is best known for his "What A War" cartoons in the Daily Herald during World War Two ("What A Life" after the war). The Passing Show was a weekly humour and short fiction magazine published from 1915 until it merged with Illustrated in 1939. Printed by the Odhams Press Ltd., London. Very good condition, restored folds and repaired tears in margins. Backed on linen. Country: UK, year of printing: 1930, designer: Gilbert Wilkinson, size (cm): 75.5x50.5
