from John Osborne's study covering the 1980s, including two diaries (1981 & 1983) and two notebooks one from 1986/87 the other undated probably from the 1980s. In his 1981 diary Osborne notes meetings with Melvin Bragg who interviwed him for the Southbank Show, - one saying ‘ici’, going to supper for 'Larry's birthday', (Laurence Olivier), and meetings with his first wife Pamela Lane at Odins (whom he continued to see during his marriage to Helen Dawson). Other meetings noted are with actor Paul Greenwood; singer & actor Adam Faith; photographer Mark Gerson (see also lot 31) and writer Caroline Moorhead. Also recorded are trips to the Garrick, The Ritz, Private Eye at the Coach and Horses, notes for Jimmy Porter And Cliff - perhaps intended for his play Déjàvu (see lot 61-63) and notes on the Seven Deadly Sins, possibly referencing his earlier play Lucifer. Also included in the lot are rules and bylaws of the Garrick Club and a letter dated 24th June 1986 from the National Theatre regarding Osborne's play The Father.
