Osborne's double bill 2 Plays for England comprising the satirical Blood of the Bambergs and the sexually charged Under Plain Cover opened at the Royal Court Theatre in July 1962. Both were light comedies about English hypocrisy, the first a satirical take on Princess Margaret's marriage to the commoner Antony Armstrong-Jones. (Heilpern, p. 287). The End of Me Old Cigar opened at the Greenwich Theatre in 1973. Titled after a suggestive old Music Hall song that was intended as a risqué modern Restoration comedy about a brassy brothel keeper. (Heilpern, p. 382).
