Osborne's acquisition of the present set of eight lithographs, including such scenes as The Charge of the Light Brigade may well have coincided with his drafting of the screenplay for Tony Richardson's eponymous film of 1968. Their collaboration on the film ended acrimoniously and terminated the professional relationship they had long enjoyed, ever since Richardson had encouraged Devine to produce Look Back in Anger at the Royal Court in 1956.
