An Essay on Shooting, Dublin, 1789, 306 pages, first edition, quarter leather binding, bearing bookplate for W.S. Curtis (Bill Curtis), and inscribed 'Major Gerald Burrard from Cottesloe, 1932'.

Major G. Burrard (1888-1965) was the author of many gun and sporting books and was involved in the creation of the Firearms Act 1936. Thomas Fremantle, 3rd Baron Cottesloe (1862-1956) had a lifelong devotion to the armed forces. He was an expert rifle shot and published three books on the subject. He shot in the English Eight for 27 years and was its Captain from 1920 until his death. He competed in the 1000 yard free rifle event at the 1908 Summer Olympics.
